Curator’s Talk by Emily Stein ’18
Nissley Gallery

In this exhibition about the history and function of the dressing table, Emily Stein Franklin & Marshall College student (Art History, 2018) explores “the vanity” as both an object and a center of elaborate feminine social practices.  On display from the Phillips Museum’s permanent collection will be objects depicting the motif of vanity.  These objects-beautiful and functional-will address the social history of women across cultures.  F&M Professor of Art & Art History Linda Aleci served as faculty adviser for Furnishing Beauty.
