FreeFurnishing Beauty: Vanities of the Dressing Table
Objects and images from the permanent collection
Curated by Emily Stein ’18
Nissley Gallery
In this exhibition about the history and function of the dressing table, Emily Stein, Franklin & Marshall College student (Art History, 2018), explores “the vanity” as both an object and a center of elaborate feminine social practices. On display from the Phillips Museum of Art’s permanent collection will be objects depicting the motif of vanity. These objects-beautiful and functional-address the social history of women across cultures. F&M Professor of Art & Art History Linda Aleci served as faculty adviser for Furnishing Beauty.
Curator’s Talk by Emily Stein ’18: April 20, 4 pm, Nissley Gallery
