Lecture: Textbook vs. Truth – History Beyond the Classroom

November 1, 2018 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

History, much like Shakespeare, is meant to be seen not read. To truly understand your past, you must stand in your ancestor’s shoes. This lecture will discuss what the ground and the structures built on it can tell us about the people who lived there, especially those individuals who are overlooked in the shaping of America. This lecture will cover information between the years 1607 and 1781.

Annie Mowery is a junior at Lancaster Mennonite School. With over eight years of experience in historical interpretation at James Buchanan’s Wheatland and Rock Ford as well as participating in various encampments, she is no stranger to living history. Mowery, a recent alumni of William and Mary’s NIAHD Pre-College Program in Early American History, has acquired extended knowledge beyond a typical history class of the time period from the settlement of Jamestown to the Battle of Yorktown.

This lecture is free and open to the public.
