Living History at Wheatland

August 1, 2015 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

$10

It’s August 1865 and James Buchanan has been retired from the Presidency for over four years. While Buchanan is away on his usual summer pilgrimage to Bedford Springs Resort, his domestic servants are busy turning Wheatland inside out for a thorough cleaning. Their stressful work soon doubles when they learn that Buchanan’s niece, Mrs. Johnston, is visiting soon after Buchanan’s return from vacation! Discover the experience of many 19th-century Americans who spent their life “below stairs” during your tour of Wheatland.

“Life Below Stairs: A Servant’s Life” will take place from 12pm to 4pm (with the last tour at 3pm). Standard history tours available at 10am and 11am. Please arrive at the main building, LancasterHistory.org, 230 N President Avenue, to check in at least 15 minutes before your tour begins. Reservations can be made online by clicking the box below or over the phone by calling 717-392-4633. Reservations highly recommended.
