Summer Robotics Workshops, with Baxter the Robot, Return to the Lancaster Science Factory!
For the fourth year in a row, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology and the Lancaster Science Factory are collaborating to present Summer Robotics Workshops in 2018! Workshops feature Baxter, a state-of-the-art, human-like, educational robot and MORE! Workshops are held at our Science Café starting June 25th through August 10th.
Baxter comes to us as part of Steven’ STEM-in-GEAR program, which works to emphasize the importance of technical education and the interest of youth in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Baxter, one of two robots currently owned by the college, will be demonstrating processes similar to those used in industry.
Rich Nolt, a technology education and engineering teacher from Manheim Township HS, will lead the workshops.
Workshops will be offered four times per day (10:30am, 11:30am, 1:00pm, and 2:00pm) on the following dates:
June 25th – 29th
July 2-4th (all times) & 6-7th (1pm & 2pm only)
July 9th – 13th
July 30th – August 3rd
August 6th -10th
Up to 15 kids in grades K-8 may participate in each workshop. Please see the front desk for sign-up upon your arrival.
Additionally, an Edison Robot activity space will allow participants to have a hands-on robotics experience. Edison educational robots are an innovation from the Australian company, Microbric. Microbric’s vision is to share electronics and robotics programming with as many people as possible. Their technology is designed to provide users with an opportunity to experiment and spark innovation without the need for expensive tools.
