The year 2015 marks the 150th anniversary of the end of the United States Civil War. The annual Civil War Encampment at LancasterHistory.org will celebrate that momentous occasion.

On Saturday, Sept. 26: In the spirit of celebration, dancing and games will abound! A troupe of Victorian-era dancers will perform dances of the mid-1800s. These demonstrations will occur on Saturday, September 26, at 12:30 and at 3pm.

On Sunday, Sept. 27: It’s time to play ball! A group of vintage baseball players will show us how the game was played in the 1860s. The game will be on Sunday afternoon, September 27 at noon (12pm).

These new events can’t overshadow old favorites! Throughout the weekend, re-enactors will perform drills and share their soldiering life off the battlefield. Surgeons and nurses will share their grim and heroic occupations. Tunes from the Fife and Drum Corps will mingle in the air with scents of campfire cooking, to immerse you in an experience as close as we can get to the past!

Saturday evening experience the camp at dusk (6:30pm) as you wind through the grounds lit by luminaries and listen to voices from the past capture life in the camps through story and song. There is no charge for this “Torchlight Tour.”

The Civil War Encampment is free and open to the public. Stop by to relive memories – your own and those of our nation. On the grounds of LancasterHistory.org’s Campus of History, 230 North President Ave., Lancaster, PA, 17603. Hours: Saturday, 10 am-9 pm, Torchlight Tour begins at 6:30pm. Sunday, 10 am-4 pm.
