Potato Power: Electric Circuits at their Best

Students will have the opportunity to learn the basic terminology of a circuit and the purpose of the electron. Students will learn the difference between AC and DC power. They will learn how to use a voltmeter. Students will construct a basic circuit. Students will then expand their basic circuit to a series circuit and parallel circuit. Student will be able to compare and contrast the two expanded circuits. Student will also be able to infer real world applications for all three circuit types. Students will then apply their knowledge and work with an alternative energy sources (Lemon or Potato) to create a battery and a functional basic circuit on their own.

Electricity for Beginners

Running 10:30am-12:30pm OR 1:30-2:30pm for students in grades 1st-5th

(Registration Deadline is Thursday, September 24th)

1-hour class
For students who are not familiar with electricity, we will define, simulate, and experiment with basics such as current, conductors, and insulators. We will also do a few experiments with static electricity.

2-hour class
Same as the 1-hour class but in addition, we’ll focus on much more hair-raising static electricity experiments using electrodes and generators in the Science Factory.
