Harriet Parker, half sister to Miss Hetty Parker

Harriet Parker, half sister to Miss Hetty Parker

Step back to the year 1869 to bid farewell to Miss Hetty Parker, James Buchanan’s loyal housekeeper. It has been a somber week at Wheatland as the household’s maids and laborers are concerned that Miss Hetty’s departure marks the end of their employment at Wheatland as well. Today Miss Hetty hangs up her housekeeper apron as she and her half-sister, Harriet Parker, along with family and friends surround her as she bids farewell to the home she has managed for twenty years. What will she do as a retired housekeeper? Where will she live? Come discover the answers to these and other questions at this special living history event!

Miss Hetty Retires will take place from 12pm to 4pm with tours available on the hour; last tour at 3pm. Standard history tours available at 10am and 11am. Please arrive at the main building, LancasterHistory.org, 230 N President Avenue, to check in and/or purchase your tickets 15 minutes before your tour begins. Reservations can be made online by clicking the links below or over the phone by calling 717-392-4633. Reservations are highly recommended.
